Do we call it the Classic, Classis 1G, or 6G?

How are we going to refer to the new one? Classic isn't near as easy type/say than 6G -- is it even a 6G or 5.75?

I am not sure what to call it. Since Apple changed the name, I think we should call it the 1G iPod classic. The same went with the iPod photo. When Apple released the iPod photo, it was basically a 4G iPod with color screen. It wasn't a whole new generation but it ran a new firmware (just like the 5G/5.5G vs Classic). So people just called it the iPod photo. That is why I think we should just call it the iPod classic. More than likely, it will be phased out over a year or two anyway so it doesn't really matter.

If anything, the iPod touch is the 6G iPod but Apple didn't say anything about it being a whole new generation iPod. It is more or less a iPhone without the phone feature which would make it a new line of iPod.

So I would call the iPod classic a iPod classic. It is more to write out than 5G or 5.5G but that is what it is called. I would consider it a 5.75G iPod though as it mainly uses a flashier new firmware, has some changes made to the casing, has a battery playback time increase, and has a increased capacity. Those are all really minor changes if you think about it.

Keep in mind that Apple has never really referred to the generations for marketing purposes anyway. The 4G, 5G, etc designations are used for support purposes to differentiate the products out of necessity, but they're never used in the actual marketed product name, since there has never been more than one on the market at any given time.

The full-size iPod has always been just the "iPod" as far as Apple is concerned. This applies to their web site, their online and retail stores, and even their product packaging.

So for all intents and purposes, it will probably just be the "iPod classic" until such time as there's any reason to differentiate it from any other iPod (such as a next-generation classic, should one appear).

Well the reason for them to add the "Classic" I think was so people would know exactly what to call the "Standard" iPod.
There will be no more fighting over whether it's a Video iPod or a Video Enabled iPod or an iPod with video.
I would call it a 6th gen iPod classic.

I think the 6th Gen is a correct reference since it is in essence a update to the 5.5G line.
The iPod Touch is a whole different iPod which should be referred to as a 1G iPod Touch.
The nano should be 3G.
The shuffle should be 2G still..or maybe even 2.5G

Well from the 5G to 5.5G it was..
Search, brighter screen and longer battery life

from the 5.5G to Classic it was..
Longer battery life, software design update, different casing, two NEW capacities

I think the classic is more than qualified to be called the 6G.
