Is my iPod stuck on 'Do Not Disconnect'?

I only just got my iPod today and connected it with my laptop, and it's been saying Do not disconnect for ages now.

I'm aware that it should be charged up to 4 hours the first time, but is this normal? I'm wondering because when I loaded it up, my iTunes said that I can't put in my songs until I download iTunes 7, so I'm doing that right now. My laptop has a history of screwing things up, so I just want to know what's going on, and what I can/should do.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can disconnect it, then install iTunes 7, then reconnect. All should work out well. Must be a new iPod that required iTunes 7. So I would guess this is normal if you didn't have iTunes 7 to begin with.

I don't know what has happened now, but no matter what I do the iTunes 7 refuses to open. I've tried repairing it three times, and reinstalled it twice already. I don't know what to do anymore. I spent a fortune on this iPod and all it's done is cause me to lose my music program. Can anyone help?

Most likely it is a Quicktime issue. Uninstall iTunes and Quicktime. Clean up the installers, then install iTunes again.

Apple has help with thie uninstall process: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
