question about size of ipod video

Hello everyone, this is my first post, I have a question regarding the size of the iPod or maybe my iPod disk size, well it suppose to be 30Gb but in iTunes when i connect my iPod it says Capacity 27.82 GB, where did the other 2.18 GB go ? Thats allot of space missing I understand its not true 30 GB but 2 GB missing ? the other question is on iTunes when i hook it up to sync the menu at the bottom tels me where all my stuff is, I got Music, Videos, photos, on it but I also got 98.4 MB of "Other" being used, What is this other stuff ? Can't be cover art, no way do I have 98 MB of it in there, I make sure those files are as small as possible.

The "Other" stuff is likely the firmware that makes your iPod work. Other than that, and without seeing a screencap of your status bar, I have no idea where the other 2gb went.

30gb is the pre-formatted size. All hard drives being sold are listed with the pre-formatted size.

Hello and welcome to iLounge. Your question about capacity has already been answered. However, the Other data on your iPod is NOT its firmware, the iPod's firmware is stored on a flash chip, not its hard drive. The Other data is made up of a library file (10MB if your library is big) and album art. Remember that iTunes uses some high resolution album art files, it doesn't use small 200X200 pictures. I have a library with over 7000 songs in it and my album art takes up about 600MB on my iPod. I am sure other data like file allocation structures also make up that Other data as well.
