Starting Out

Hello Everybody,

Today I will be buying a 30GB ipod video.

Could someone please tell me what extra accessories i'm going to need to buy.

I'm new to the ipod scene so please forgive me for asking such a stupid question.

Thanks

To start with get some screen protectors to put over the display, they're cheap and well worth it. You'll also want to get a good case to help protect the iPod in addition to the screen protectors.

I recommend a charger like Logiix's USB+ CHARGER, they're pretty handy if you don't want to use your computer to charge all the time.

you don't "need" anything else, it comes with everything you'll need to get started. Comes with earphones, charging/sync cable, universal dock adapter, felt pouch and the iPod itself.

Accessories that may be useful...
-some sorta of a case/protection. hard plastic, silicone, ect. There are a lot of options, decide what will best fit you and your needs. I personall have a silicone case and screen protector on both my 30gb and 80gb iPods. My 80gb case doesn't cover the click wheel so I also have a 3d wheel film on that. I also have RadTech dock connector covers on both.
-wall charger. the iPod doesn't come with a way to charge your iPod when away from a computer, so if you plan on being on trips or something like that where you won't have a computer to charge your iPod, you may want a wall charger.
-in-earphones. depending on your personal preference, you may want to get a good set of sound isolating in-earphones.

those are just a few things you may want right from the start. There are many accessories availible for iPods to fit just about any need.

Oh, that's good to know. I thought that it just came with an ipod and nothing else.

Everything that is not in the box is entirely optional. One of the first accessorary purchases people tend to make is a decent case. Personally I do not sue one and if you have a burning desire to 'protect' your iPod then there is a suede sleeve included in the box.

Actually I’d probably buy a wall charger as some other people have said, and I’d buy a case. iPods are known for their scratching. That’s just my two cents.

Being the ipod is prone to scratches, a case is an absolute necessity. That needs to be the first thing on your to do list.

The FIRST thing you need to do is go online and register the thing with Apple so that if anything happens to it in the next year, it's covered under the warranty..

I HIGHLY recommend a case. On my Ipods, I use an aluminum case with plexiglass over the actual ipod screen. It's also got rubber cushions inside to protect it when it falls..

A protective case of some kind, a wall charger and decent headphones are all necessary. After that start to find ways to listen to the iPod out loud - a lead from the headphone jack or some kind of dock to plug the iPod into a stereo, or even a set of speakers for the iPod itself. And some kind of method to play the iPod through a car stereo - either a cassette connector or iTrip type of broadcasting device depending on what you have in your car.
