iPod Can't Get Past The Apple Screen

I didn't use my iPod all weekend and then when I went to turn it on this morning, instead of booting up normally it went to a diagnostic menu. Being late for class, I didn't hav time to play around so I just set it down and left. Upon returning from class I attempted to turn my iPod on but it will not get past the apple screen. The light comes on for awhile, shuts off, but the apple logo remains ont he screen. I can hear the harddrive turning itself on and off as well.

I have tried to reset the iPod but it doesn't work. I can't restore my iPod because my computer is not able to recognize it.

Does anyone have any advice?

Try forcing your iPod into hardware disk mode by following the instructions here.

Once it's in disk mode, your computer should be able to recognize it so that you can restore it to factory settings.
