Sound lagging with movies

Hi I just bought my 80 gig Ipod last week and I love it but I'm having a problem with movies where with any long movie by the end the sound laggs about 1-2 seconds behind the picture. Is this normal? I tried a few different conversion tools. (The movies I am playing some are from dvd some were avi's) would lowering the sound quality help or is there something else i can do?

Also unrelated to this I live in Australia and its heading into summer, we frequently have days here that are 40 degrees celcius and i was wondering whether this would damage the battery if i were to use my ipod on a 40 degree day or whether there is some slack in the 35 degree limit... thanks

About the late sound, I suggest you test the movie after it's converted before you upload to the iPod. This will help you cut-down the problem in half.

As for the heat issue, exposing the device from time to time to 40 degrees is not that bad, but yes it is not recommended to expose any electonic device to such heat.
