2nd Generation Ipod Mini SCreen Cracked

Well My wife cracked the screen on her 2nd gen. Mini...., and with outrageous prices of replacing it through apple or a 3rd party... I have decided to replace it myself. Are there any write-ups / manuals that tell you how to replace a screen? OR does anyone have any experience with replacing a screen? Any and all help would be very much appreciated!! Thanks!

If you buy an LCD off of ebay or whatever, here's what you need to know.

You have to buy a 2nd gen ipod mini LCD screen, 1st and 2nd gen screens are different, so make sure you get the 2nd gen one.

Next, you have to get tools to open up the iPod mini (I wouldn't advise using anything but specific tools for your iPod mini)

Next you have to carefully and gently remove the top and bottom white covers (they're held on with adhesive. The top is purely adhesive, the bottom is adhesive and small plastic clips. Be careful when removing the plastic clips. Just take it slow and carefully.

Next you're going to have to remove the metal clip at the bottom. My advice is to straighten out a bigger paper clip and put it in the wholes on the clip on the right side (if the ipod screen and clickwheel are facing up). Put The paperclip in and try to get the clip out of the notch in the casing. Once you get both of them out on the right side, then lift up on the clip (pull up on it so that the metal wont scrap the case and then turn it one way or the other (up or down) until the clip pops out.

Next, use a small flathead screwdriver and carefully push up on the clickwheel, alternating back and forth on the left and right side. Do not pry at all on it or you will break the connector and you'll be out a clickwheel. Take your time and gently rock it back and forth on each side until it comes out on it's own.

Next, unscrew the top two philips screws.

Once you've done that, gently push up from the bottom dock port and slide the logic board out the top.

Next, disconnect the battery and pull the battery off the logic board (it'll be semi hard but just gently pull it off)

Turn the logic board over and find the ribbon cable underneath the lcd. Notice the different color flap on the connector soldered onto the logic board. Take a small flathead screwdriver and pop that flap up.

Turn over the logic board again and carefully unclip the 4 clips on the back of the lcd that is holding the lcd to the logic board.

Now do everything backwards and you'll be set and having a working lcd screen!
