Can't add songs to playlist. Please help

I have recently added itunes to a new computer through the internet download option so it is the latest version available. Prior to installing itunes i loaded all of the songs to the computer so that they would be automatically added to itunes. Everything worked exactly as it was should have. I can play songs in the library, but when i try to add a playlist then add songs to to the playlist the option to add is greyed out and i am unable to drag songs as well. Any help anyone can provide me with will be greatly appreciated. Haven't even tried to add ipod as don't want to lose what is currently on it.

The Add Songs To Playlist option is greyed out because you don't have any Playlists yet.

You should select a few songs, then Click on File->New Playlist from Selection to create your first playlist. Or just create a New Playlist from the File menu.
