My ipod doesn't show up in windows explorer

My ipod doesn't show up in windows explorer, does anybody know how I can fis this? My iPod is not enabled for disk use. Thanks.

You have to enable it for disk use!

When I do that, the do not remove or whatever logo flashes forever

Unfortunately when using iTunes, these two problems are symptoms of each other. If you have enabled for disk use, you simply have to click the eject button in iTunes.

wheres the eject button? i see one but that just opens my disk drive

okay, i've tried for days to read forums on internet and nothing works. my ipod works fine w/my car charger but when i plug in to usb, it doesn't show up AT ALL! not even error message. tried several usbs and sevral computers, same problem. it used to work and then one day stopped. does ipods have a certain amount of times that they will sync to a library and then freeze? i bought it from someone and worked okay for a little while and now won't recognize at all by itunes, windows explorer, computer usb, nothing. doesn't show up anywhere at all. even bought new usb cord and nothing. i'm wondering if this is possibly a way apple keeps you from selling/reselling that it syncs to one or two or three libraries and then freezes? the music that's on there works great and can charge in my car but absolutely nothing when plugged into computer. i've already downloaded all latest itunes and updates for microsoft and that ISN'T THE PROBLEM. so please don't start there. this has to be a problem where it's locking me out of apple and apple getting "smart" about people buying on ebay and craigslist and the like.

is there any way around this? thanks!

I've got exactly the same problem. It's worked fine since day one and now it's suddenly not recognised in windows or itunes.
I've gone through the troubleshooting solutions but it hasn't had any effect.
Anyone know how to solve it?

I've tried my wife's classic 80gb with the same cable and it works fine.

And hooking my ipod to a different computer hasn't worked either. It still isn't recognised.

So, I have isolated the problem to my ipod itself. However all I can do with this is reboot it, which I have done several times. I can't hook it up to itunes and use the factory reset. Is there a way to do this any other way?

Looking at the display, the green power bar constantly has the cable symbol showing, so it looks like the ipod thinks it's connected already and therefore can't link to anything else.
Anyone else had this problem?

i guess it's a rare problem. luckily i've managed to get it working again.
