Charging but not updating...

hey, im new here and im just wondering why whenever i connect my iPod mini to my computer now, it doesn't update. there's nothing wrong with the USB cable since it's charging properly. in other words, the "do not disconnect" along with the sign isn't popping up. ive probaly tried everything possbile yet, it still doesn't work...someone please help me!

Connect the iPod to your PC, wait for Windows to mount it and then, with the 'Pod still connected to your PC, reset the iPod.

what do I do if that didn't work? it still just charges, i've tried un-installing, re-installing the updater, all that crap
