backlight issues

ok, i got a 60GB black video ipod with about 2 gigs of stuff on it, a while back (after a period of non-use) my backlight started to flicker at random points but would usually fix itself. now it is to the point where it never works, it has never been dropped, theres not even a scratch on it, what is wrong?

the screen works, but the backlight just doesnt

Have you tried holding the menu button, until the light comes on? You can also adjust the setting, main menu>settings>backlight timer
