Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

I have just had a disaster..I think!
My Ipod was skipping songs, it has never done this before.
I reset the Pod using the menu and select keys(I held them down for about 10 seconds). Before the pod clicked back into life it briefly showed a file icon on the screen and when it did come back to life all my music had been erased!!!!!!
Anyone know what has happened? Will my pod be ok when I get it home and load it back into its itunes? Will all the tunes come back as before? It has taken me 14 months to build up the 7000 songs on there!!
Please help!
Much appreciated!!

N

Well you should have the music files on your computer.

I would probably do a Restore on the ipod via the ipod updater to clear everything up.

Hi Boatracer

Thanks

I do have the music files on my Mac.
Do I just upload the pod as usual?

What does the restore on the Ipod via the ipod updater to clear up actually do?? How do you do that?

Any idea while songs could have been skipping? It was the first time the pod had done it in 14 months!!

Thanks!

you can get the restore software here

http://www.apple.com/ca/ipod/download/

The restore puts the ipos software back to a default state and clears up the hard drive.

Then plug it back to your mac and sync it again.

I am going to sound really daft here but what exactly will this do?

What does it mean to clear up the hard drive?

At this point in time I just want to get my 7000 songs back on the pod...if I don't get them back on I will be crying!

For the record I have had my IPod 40GB for 14 months and own a IMac which is now about 5 years old although it has been updated about 2.5 years ago.

Can anyone assure me that if I connect my pod when I get home it will update all the songs and stats to the pod without any fuss?

Does anyone know what I actually done to wipe the memory from the pod?? I thought I was just doing a general reset rather than a whole memory erase!!

Thanks for any words of wisdom!

If your iPod have been wiped cleaned then really, your musics gone dude. If you actually have all the files in your computer, it wont be much of a problem. Downloading iPod Updater, restore and fresh uploading.

But, if you dont have it in your computer, then it's gone. I've seen a thread in the forum somewhere about "iPod backup" or something like that.

Nodders: if you have your songs on your computer then you're fine. Restore the iPod, which as mentioned is like restoring it to factory software conditions (barring a hardware problem on your iPod) and then plug it in. iTunes will consider it a brand new iPod, and will upload the songs to it.

So long as the music is still on your computer, you haven't lost it. iTunes - iPod syncing works only in one direction: from iTunes to your computer. It does not work in the other direction unless you go through some third-party effort.

Thanks for all your help.

Last night I uploaded my pod to its ITunes but it was having problems - it stated something about having a problem recognising disk and gave me three options.
Is this happening as I haven't 'restored' my ipod??
In other words it didn't sync up like it would usually and just update all the songs.

Is there something I have to do to re-register the pod?

Is the easiest way to do this to restore the pod as above?

thanks once again!

hi i visited the Apple store and they informed me that they think the problem might have come from downloading tracks from the internet?!?!?!?

has anyone else heard of this??

an alternative solution is to update my ipod...is this dangerous?

Like I've said before I have had my pod for 14 months and I have never opted for one of the updates that you get offered all the time.........
