no more progress bar or volume bar, just 5 dots

So today I turn on my new Ipod and the volume bar as well as the song progress bar for mp3 files is missing. In it's place are five little dots. When I turn the volume up the song progress slides to the left and 5 other dots (usually the volume level) slide in from the right. So I've lost my progress bar and volume bar all together. Is this a known issue? The songs actually play fine, and the volume does work, just not the visual indicator.

thanks for any help,

greg

No, this is a known issue. The screen gets stuck on the rating display (or sometimes the artwork).

Usually you can recover by doing this:

1. Don't touch anything for 5 seconds.
2. Push the center button. Wait 1 second.
3. Repeat step 2 another few times -- usually the problem goes away after 4 clicks.

If this doesn't work, then sit still for another 5 seconds and do it all over again. If THAT doesn't work, then reset the iPod (hold down the Center and Menu buttons until the screen goes blank and an Apple icon appears).

Thanks for everyone's input. I'm an idiot and didnt' realize that the ipod had a rating feature. I thought I did something to mess it up. All is well now, and I learned that I can also fast forward in the song with the click wheel and not just with the forward, reverse buttons. Awesome!

Thanks again.

Not offended in the least. I just got the thing the other day so the rating thing was new to me. I know, I'm an idiot. The manual is pretty weak though. And I googled every possible thing I could think of with no good results. Which led me here. Thanks for the heads up guys!

I'd rather know english than how to use an iPod

hope I didn't affend

haha I'm just messin' with you, man :P

it usually takes a lot for me to ask for help too ^_^ I kind of just messed around and figured it out for myself. I never used that on my Mini, but I clicked all the buttons and got familiar with things before I started really using it and just thought "cool!", when I saw the features when I hit that botton I love seeing the album art larger(never use the stars)

Lol, when my bro got a nano for christmas he called me about 5 minutes after he got home because he couldn't figure out how to scroll through the menu and he thought it was frozen. I told him he had to move his finger around the big circle, lol. It worked :-).
