Question How do you use your iPod 5G?

In what different ways do you use you iPod 5G?

I use my 5G in basically 2 ways:

1. In car player - this is by far the #1 way I use my iPod. No more MP3 CD's with 100 or so songs. It sounds awesome in the car.

2. Portable MP3 player. In truth, I've had my 5G for a couple of weeks and have yet to use it in this manner. But that time will come.

3. When my Griffin TuneCenter arrives, I'll attach the player to my main stereo in my living room. With the line out it will sound as good as any CD I have, and better than the now wireless transmission of my computers music library to the stereo.

4. Occassionally I'll bring it to work for a listen. Usually, I just stream Music Choice metal from the internet,

I don't envision me ever using the video portion of the player.

On order of commonality:
  1. Music while driving through aux input adapter
  2. Music while working out to drown out the godawful MTV playing in the weight room
  3. Very rarely, videos when I don't have my tablet nearby and there's nothing else to do

Here is my list (Numbered accordingly):

1. Work - I usually work best with a little music and with 30gb, I can have my collection at my fingertips. Plus, the video function is great for breaks or just playing in the background while I work (ripped dvd simpson and family guy episodes).

2. Library - When I'm not doing co-op, I'm taking a butt load of courses and studying in the library. Again, I just concentrate better having a tune running through my head.

3. Car - I usually use this for long trips. I have an alpine 9845 HU (Type S components and rears) that has a minijack in the back that is hooked up to a GLI and then to a Monster ultra low profile charger with lineout. It sounds a lot better than tape, fm, etc but still definitely not as good as an mp3 cd or the original cd (NO WAY IN HELL). No suprise since the ipod isn't exactly a stellar audiophile player ( i used to have an iriver H320 that had a stellar lineout built into the player!). But yeh, I love not having to switch CD's while im driving long distances. Plus my friends can plug in their ipods easily if they want.

I have an Alpine CDA-9807 HU. I purchased the $15 cable that hooked up to the CD changer input in the rear of the deck w/RCA inputs on the other end. I purchased the Sendstation line out for the iPod. The iPod in my car sounds every bit as good as any MP3 CD I've ripped.

Do you have aftermarket speakers or are you using stock? Because I had the ipod hooked up to auxilliary and my mp3 cd both playing the same song. I then switched sources and there was a difference in bass response ( a bit mudier ) and detail (Missing from ipod source). It was also the same mp3 files. I doubt the ipods DA converter is as good as the DA converter in the HU.

1. At School during classwork time (if instructor allows).
2. Lunch.
2. On the school bus to and fro.
3. Cardiovascular excercises.
4. While watching TV on mute (quite enjoyable, actually).
5. General activies.
5. Homework.

As you can see, the iPod has control over much of my life.

This is my car system:

Alpine CDA-9807 MP3/CD head unit
Boston Acoustics Pro-Series 5.5 Component speakers (front)
Boston Acoustics NX-97's (rear)
JL Audio 12" W3 dual 2-ohm sub in custom box (in trunk)
JL Audio 500/5 Amp (in trunk)
Monster 1 Farad Capacitor

Since I'm using the line out of the iPod and not the headphone jack, the Alpine's amp is doing the work. The sound from the iPod using the Sendstation Firewire line out is as clean as the MP3 CD's burned from the same files. I honestly hear no difference, and at the same volume level both the MP3 CD and the iPod sound identical, and great sounding.

At home when surfing around, on my balcony with a cup of coffee on Saturday morning with the paper, or when just lounging around just in the mood to listen to music in peace.

Starbucks, order my coffee, sit in the easy chair, read a book, and play some light music to drown out the outside sounds.

In the Gym

In my car, I have an Alpine 9847 with KCA-420i Adapter so I am able to charge, play, and listen to my entire music collection wherever I go. I have 2 Sony 6 1/2" Speakers in the front, 2 Infiniti 6 1/2" speakers in the back, a BassLink powered Subwoofer in the trunk, and a 200 Watt Alpine Amp controlling it all. I want to say on a side note, if you are not getting ideal sound out of your Ipod being directly connected to your Head Unit, make sure the EQ is turned off on your Ipod....makes a HUGE difference in sound quality.

I have a small set of speakers in the office, so I listen to my Ipod all day with light background music.

Basically I use my Ipod for anything I could and couldn't do with a very large diverse CD collection. I encoded everything in 192 Kbps AAC Format and find I get extraordinarily high sound quality.
