Just leave it on then, w/o playing anything, it should turn off on its own in a bit

are you using the 1.0 firmware? is this only happening after or during a video clip ? If so then go back and play a song first and then hold play to shutdown- i dunno why it works like that but its something thats been fixied in the 1.1 firmware if you can deal with the glitches in video or just wait for 1.2

i get the same problem w/ my 60 gig, occasionally.

I'll hold down the play button to turn it off, and after the amount of time it takes to normally turn off, instead of turning off, the backlight just goes off.
(did you get that?...)
So i went to settings and put "sleep" in the main menu...that always works for me.

if this happens after quiting a video before its finished, either go back to the movie and faster forward to the end or, go play a song, and then it shud turn off.
