I know that's the only reason I did mine. Not even that much for scratches. Anyway it is extremely easy to do. Just make sure you follow the instructions and go in a staight line.

I wish you could choose what you wanted when you buy it. like you can choose black or white, and you can choose smooth or brushed steel.

Would you need like a special liquid or chemical to do this? I've read around but all I see is that you only need Scotch Brite and a lil time of rubbing? Help please.

5G Ipod?

Wow! A lot of people have had great results apparently. I'm really eager to do this, but I have a few questions:

1) I sent my iPod in for service and they sent it back in the ipod box (pretty small, nonscratch foam perfect for my iPod size). Would you suggest doing it in this?

2) You use a straightedge to keep the scotch brite pad straight, right? Like a ruler or something?

3) Would scotch tape work? I would like to see the area that will not be covered before I start.

4) How long does it take to do?

5) Oh, and the tape. You put it precisely on the edge and on the plastic?

Thanks!

P.S. Has anyone tried this on a 5G?

1. I did
2. I just put a big box beside it or a book and pressed on it hard so it wouldn't slide
3. No, I used packedging tape so it wouldn't move around.
4. Took me 5 min of just brushing. It's the preparing that takes time
5. Yep, It's not really necessary. I didn't use it because it was too much of a hassle. I have a white ipod and didn't notice anything wrong with slightly brushing the white edges.

It looks alright but wouldnt do it to my iPOD. I work in a machine shop myself and my 60 gb iPOD gets hooked up to a crappy stereo deck at work and sits there for 11 hrs a day (it is in a case btw with a screen protector covering the screen ) and the shiny polished back is STILL in pristene condition (It is a WHITE iPOD at that) go figure. Everyone at work is almost affraid to touch it but it gets used almost everyday but i also used a transparency overlay to protect the click wheel (i just cut it out and slipped it under the case i have for it with is a "Skin") but when i take it outta the case the ipod is in perfect condition.... this is just my 2 cents worth and opinion and you know what they say about them !!!!

Well, I put mine in a case too. But at some point you do have to take it in and out and during that time mine got scratched. But the main reason I did mine was because of the nasty finger prints

I did mine only a couple months after I got it. Love the look... even though I have 2 cases and keep it in one of them almost all of the time. Click the pic in my signature to see a the martini design I made.
