Need Cable with 30-pin on both ends M-F

I've got a 40G ipod and my wife has a mini-ipod.

Her car-adapter has a plexiglas ring that the mini fits into.
Of course, the larger ipod won't fit.

So, what I think I need to do it buy or make a cable that has the special 30-pin connector on both ends, one male and one female.

That way I can plug the cable into my 40G ipod and use it in her car adapter.

I really only need about 12" of cable.

Any suggestions, or sources?
Thanks, -K

What kind of cable? My assumption would be Firewire, though I can't think of any use for thirty pins on a firewire connector. If my memory serves me well you only need six. Pin 1 is for power, Pin 2 is ground, Pins 3 and 4 are the B twisted pair, Pins 5 and 6 are the A twisted pair. (Don't quote me on that though) You're going to wind up with twenty-four extra pins. If the connector for the iPod is thirty pins then just splice the cable and solder it to a different connector, just make sure you do the pinout right...

What you want is a Dock Connector Extension Cable, basically?

I've wished I had one a few times as well...

I have a (sort of) solution, that's not guaranteed to work.

Take your standard iPod Dock Connectory-USB Cable, and add the Belkin Dock Adapter for iPod shuffle.

Plug the adapter into the end of the USB cable, and the car kit into the adapter, and it should work.

Belkin says the adapter isn't compatible with car kits, but that's most likely because of the iPod shuffle, not the adapter.

DLO makes a similar product also, but I had the link to this one.

That Belkin adapter with the supplied USB to dock connector cable seems like a good idea.

If you know a bit about DIY you could buy some adapters from Ridax on the iPodLinux forums:

and make your own extension cable. I believe he sells both the male and female portions of the adapter. You'd have to look up the pinout online and do some soldering to get the features you need (line out, power).

Thanks for the suggestions!

I may try that adapter-to-adapter thing first, and if I get around to it I might solder-up an extension cord for future use.

Thanks again!
