how to restore 5th gen ipod to factory settings

after putting more songs on my ipod i unplugged it from the usb port without ejecting it from itunes, which was obviously stupid as it deleted all of my songs.

not only that, but itunes no longer recognizes the contents of the ipod. it says i need to use ipod updater software to restore the ipod to factory settings. i am using a mac ibook and any help is appreciated

I've just installed the latest update and it gives the option of UPDATE or RESTORE. If you select RESTORE it returns the iPOD to factory conditions and removes all files.

You need to plug your iPod into the computer and then open the software. Once the iPod's recognized by the computer you should get the 'update' or 'restore' options.
