Help! iPod not recognized! PC Hangs!

I just bought a 5G iPod 60GB and I can't get it to work! When I plug it via USB i hear the sound that its conected but the ballons that are supposed to pop up and tell me what i just plugged in dont come up. Then the computer starts going really slow and itunes or XPlay wont run. i dont see it on My Computer either and i cannot restore it or update it. The weird thing is, the second i unplug de ipod everyhting goes back to normal. Itunes runs, Xplay asks me to name my iPod and the iPod Updater tells me to plug something to the computer. I've tried it on my brothers laptop wich is the exact same as mine and it works fine. I've reinstalled the software, restore the ipod, reset it, reset my computer, i did everything i could but cant get it to work. I even scanned my computer for virus or adware/spyware but couldnt make a change... please help! I dont wanna have to format my computer!

How old is your computer? Do u have sp2 on your computer? Possible your usb support for ipod is suspect? I had same issue and solved it by installing pci card with firewire. Worked with usb1 and firewire, but not usb2.

my computer is just a couple of months old and i do have sp2 on it... i think it might be a conflict with third party sofware but not sure. and the usb thing i dont think so because me and my brother bought our laptops together, his is exactly the same as mine and it works just fine on his.
Earlier today i took a look at device manager and i did find my ipod there. it said it was disabled and windows was unable to enable it and it said (code 22) i tried googling it but couldnt get anything useful. thanks for your help by the way
