Can I take songs from ITunes and burn them to CD?

I was wondering if I could take songs/files from ITUNES and convert them to Windows Media Player, so that I can burn them onto a blank CD, if someone could please help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. What do I exactly have to do, and how do I go about doing this?

Thanks!

Burn them directly in iTunes. Create a playlist, insert a blank CD, and click Burn.

If you do that and then put that CD back in your comp and rip the files, will they still be iTunes files (i.e. Can't be put on a non-ipod mp3 player)?

You can rip them using whatever program you want. They'll be standard audio CDs.

It's the most utilised way of getting rid of DRM but it's legality is dubious..

Not really. As long as you already own the songs and you're doing it for your own personal use, it constitutes fair use, much to the irritation of the RIAA.

Right. Fair use, no matter what the corporations want, is still the law of the land and there are numerous challenges both in the courts and in disputes with the FCC and other regulatory agencies that establish that for personal use you can pretty much do what you want with media that you either purchased or which is broadcast into your home. They did their run-around with the DMCA that makes actual circumvention or hacking of DRM technology a crime not allowed by the fair use argument, but the rub is that there is no circumvention of the DRM with things like ripping from a burned CD or capturing the wave-stream from your soundcard. The DRM remains intact in all cases and all you did was use the expressly permitted forms of usage to generate another form of the intellectual property being locked down by DRM.
