5G - USB Charging with Windows 2000

Just purchased a 5g 60 gig and noticed that it wouldn't charge the battery when plugged into any of my USB 2.0 ports. The charging symbol only comes up when the Ipod is first plugged in ("do not disconnect"). I tried two computers and even a powered USB box with no luck. The only way I have found to charge (without buying a standalone charger) is to select "enable disk use" in iTunes (under the Preferences tab). This way, the "do not disconnect" is displayed along with the charging indicator. It works, but isn't very convenient. Anybody else run across this or have a better solution? I'm thinking this is probably a Windows 2k issue.

I have the same exact issue under W2K. At least it will charge with disk-mode being enabled.

I have seen the big battery (both charging and charged) on the screen a couple of times when I had disk-mode disabled. I can't figure out what makes it come up and how to do it so I just use it with disk-mode enabled. I even restored my iPod one time to see if that would solve the problem.

I honestly think it is a driver issue with the USB 2.0 card in my PC and nothing related to the iPod.

I'm having this exact same problem - Win2K, Onboard USB 2 ports, 5G 60GB iPod.

Right now, I have one file in my libary that is actually an MP2 file. When my iPod first connects, I get a warning in iTunes that the file can't be transfered. If I leave that popup on the screen, my iPod will charge. Once I hit OK, it will sync up and then will no longer charge.

I also find that I have to disconnect and then reconnect the iPod to have it pick up addtional changes after the first connection. If I rip a CD while my iPod is connected, it won't transfer the songs over until I unplug and reconnect.

Right click on the iPod name and choose update iPod. You could click the File menu and choose update iPod too.
