It won't stay connected...

When I hook up the iPod to my computer (Windows XP x64), it'll automatically open iTunes and synchronize music. Then it will "disconnect" itself (and will return to the main iPod menu on the iPod), and I can't seem to access the iPod at all until I physically plug it in again. And then, it'll automatically do the music sync, and then disconnect once again.

I'm trying to set the preference in iTunes to synchronize my photos, but it can never actually "save" that preference. When I hit "okay" on the pref screen, it tells me it cannot update the device (it is plugged in still). When I unplug it and replug it in, all of the settings I've changed in Preferences are lost again...and I'm back at square one.

Any ideas...?

I'm not sure about enable disk use since this option is gray out for me since the nano and then this 5G. Anyway I have manual sync for song and video only Podcast and Photo that auto update.

I got that exact same problem and after re-installed Itune from CD the problem is gone.
