Apple says firewire is the be-all and end-all of all connections, you agree with them without thinking, hence you have been advertised.
Please, if you want to continue this off topic disscussion, then PM me, I'd be happy to educate you. |

Wait up now, I would be more than willing to buy into anything that was faster no matter who the vendor was. I'm just stating fact. Firewire 800 is the current fastest standard.

Virtually every MP3 player on the market now is coming with USB 2.0 and supports WMA instead of ACC. It would be nice if USB 2.0 was included, but that would only increase the cost of the iPOD. It would be good if iPOD supported WMA as well, then it may appeal to Windows users even more. |

I'm wondering when the the definition of better became most popular? Just because something is more popular doesn't mean it is the best. I mean, does anyone really believe that that the Bug was the best car ever made, or that Windows is the best operating system ever created, or that we should all be using mp3's because it is the best standard for audio. Adam, you may not like firewire, but that doesn't mean it isn't better than USB2.0. I have multiple external firewire drives, and there is no way I would have bought multiple USB2.0 external drives instead, since it would have slowed me down. USB2.0 is good, but not when you are using multiple drives as they both have to share the bandwidth when they are spinning at the same time.

SouthsideIrish, the fact is if a something isn't popular, no one will make something that uses it even though it is better because there is very little demand. It is a lot easier to have standards, although competition is healthy and can lower prices, it can also cause incompatibitity between hardware/software. Like MP3 'was' the standard, and Microsofts WMA format which wasn't so popular which was probably better. Although MP3s weakenesses have turned on Apple as it didn't incorporate the features that WMA had. They have released ACC but is know where near as popular as MP3, probably because it didn't have a Napster like incedent to elevate its popularity.

Anyone want to disagree with this statement?
Use USB2.0 if and only if your computer has it, and you only plan on using it with your iPod. i.e. you are not writing to your iPod from another USB2.0 device. Otherwise get a firewire card! Bill McNair |
