Did you ever get a solution?
My sister's 30GB photo does this now. The only way to turn it off seems to be to put it in the Kensington dock. The dock will still turn it off, but you can't turn off the ipod by itself. |

Make sure the hardrive isn't spinning. I had the same problem, but found out that the hardrive was spinning and once it stops you can turn the iPod off.

I think the problem may be the backlight setting. When I had mine set to Always On and kept it in the dock overnight, when I took it out it wouldn't turn off.
I re-set it and it worked fine, and I have never let it go on Always On again. Try that

You'd have to try turning it off repetitively. Well this method seems to work fine for me at least.
The thing you should remember is that the interval(the time between you actually stopped listening to music and turning it off)should be at least a few minutes. Just let it sit after you actually fail to turn it off in the first place, then retry it. I always do that cause my iPod is a dummy... works like a charm though.

I agree, it sometimes takes minutes for the hardrive to stop.

i had this problem and the ipod would ONLY turn off if i plugged it into the wall charger i have from my 3g 15 gig. Well this wont work for whenever i take it anywhere. And subsequently even though it would APPEAR to go in to sleep mode it would still drain the battery all the way down. I purchased my 60gig about 10 days ago and was getting more frustrated with this problem everyday especially since my 3g was a gem and worked perfectly for the 3 years i used it no issues whatsoever.
The ipod was purchased with 1.1 installed already, I downgraded back to 1.0 with no avail but the ipod didnt do a hard reset when i reverted so i am not sure if it totally went back. I read all of the reviews about 1.1.1 and it seemed that the bugs that were left were liveable.... so i took the plunge and updated from 1.0>>1.1.1. Now at first i was really really P!$$ED as the damn thing would give me the "DONT USE THE FIREWIRE CABLE" screen everytime i would press the sleep button on the main menu screen. So i reset it and resisted the urge to throw it through the wall. No good, at least this time it would let me get into other menus and play music (which it wouldnt do before). So i decided to reset again. It rebooted and i was playing around with it looking in the menus and tweaking my settings back to normal (backlight 2secs, repeat off, shuffle on, adjusted volume max volume control), i went back to the main screen and hit sleep and VOILA IT WORKED!!! just to verify it wasnt some spoof miracle i did it a few more times and have been able to turn off with no issues. Now with that said I have not plugged in to itunes to update. But for now it will turn off. Prior to this i had NEVER EVER been able to turn it off NO MATTER what i did unless i plugged it in to the wall charger. So hope this might help someone. |
