Question "Slice" in my Apple logo

Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Just got my 60 GB iPod and it booted up with the silver Apple against the dark screen -- BUT with a curved slice from the bottom left towards the top right of the Apple.

First thot: broken display screen. Nope. Screen's fine.

iPod worked fine for first day, then started to go into a coma after being off for more than an hour, and would only come up after many reset attempt.

Went to Apple.com and restored the software. No more comatose behavior last three days, but still have the slice in the Apple logo if I go through reset.

1. What's my problem and is it common? (Can't find it on this or other forums)

2. Should I be asking for a new iPod??

It would be nice to see a picture of this. I know the Apple has a bite taken out of it and there is a reflection across one side of the Apple logo but it is just kinda hard to know what you are seeing.

Um yer, are you sure you're not referring to the line that runs across the apple logo, like this:

Nope.

This is dark pixels starting lower than your picture, wider where it begins, with a small break and then starting up again, and diminishing into nothing before it reaches the top right of the Apple.

It's also a simple arc, not a "swoosh"

It's very distinct and my friend, a Comp USA service manager said he'd never seen anything like it.

james i think that's what he is talking about. If you didn't know any better you would probably think it's a crack.

Since there is no slice in the screen, only the logo when booting I would say the poor guy/gal is paranoid. lol

Edit: you posted while I was typing. Well since the manager have never seen it (though aside from apple stores I don't have much faith in retail employees/managers) I would try and return it.

If you pay that type of money (60GB photos are not cheap) I would want it to operate at 100%. No less.

I excuse your LOL, but I have 20 years of computing experience, and while I may be paranoid about some things, this ain't one. See my previous more detailed description.

That's the Apple logo for the colour iPod...

...you should just be able to make it out in this shot -

the 'slash' extends from the "8 o'clock" to "1 o'clock" position on the Apple logo.

That's kind of my thought as well -- but bought at Apple.com engraved so don't know how amenable they'll be.

(NOTE: I was amazed to receive an engraved iPod from Shanghai with no S&H charge in 46 hours!)

Yeah, that slice in the logo is normal. I just bought a 20Gb color and it's in mine too.

Thanks All

OK,

I admit it. I WAS paranoid as an earlier poster noted.

However, in my feeble defense, along with the whole having to solve a fairly sizeable problem (a non-waking iPod that had to be totally restored) about 8 hours into owning the machine (which would have thrown non-techies like most of my friends), and this being my first toe in the switching water after 20 years on the sidelines, I feel entitled.

But thanks for all the feedback.

The last image linked by the chief admin IS the logo I see (which I also noticed when I printed out and read the power user review of the unit).

Thanks to all for the help and hand-holding! And for the comprehensive review.
