Track Names

Hi. I have just reinstalled Windows XP and im re-adding all my songs back to itunes the way i normally do. Enable disk mode, view iPod_Control folder, copy Music folder, drag to itunes. All the songs copied into iTunes music folder fine. But looking through the track names in itunes it looks like some of the ID3 tags have been read wrong. Songs appear as QJHC, when the track is called QJHC.mp3, not the correct track name.

On my ipod all the track names are fine.

Any help would be appreciated!

Do all the affected track names have extensions like ".mp3"? If so, then this sounds like a deliberate, um, feature of the software. iTunes might be regarding the extension as some kind of artifact -- part of the file name, but NOT an expected part of a track name.

Does it accept manual corrections okay? Like if you add ".mp3" to the track name within iTunes?

There is a windows setting - do not show extensions for known file types. I'm not sure if it is the default or not but it sounds like it has been set.

Edit.
Just re-read the question. iTunes does normally show the extension on the front page of the song info, at the bottom where it shows the full path - is that where its missing?
