Hey guys-
ive been reading over in the b&w ipod forum that alot of people are getting the folder with the exclamation mark. i am too. ive tried every thing they suggested, and some they didnt, and im still not up and running. On sep. i plan on ordering the box to ship it off in, and i was wondering if anybody had to pay for this service, how much did it cost. im hoping no more than $100, but im pretty sure it will be more. Thanks Ben |

If you have a warranty then it will cost nothing. After 6 mnths you pay shipping costs around $32. If your out of warranty then you need to check the prices of the services which you can find in the iPod Book. The link is on the front page of iLounge.

honeybee, do you mean that after 6 months after you bought it or 6 months after the warranty ends you must pay shipping?

FYI, I just went through my own post warranty, exclamation point folder hell, and during the process, I checked with Apple re their out-of-warranty repair service. They wanted to charge me around $270 for the service!
Well, I wasn't about to fork over nearly the cost of a brand new iPod for the repair of a unit barely past warranty (I started seeing the symptoms while it was under warranty, but it always seemed to go away...until the warranty term had passed...amazing), so I shopped around and wound up sending it to ipodmods.com for a repair. They diagnosed the problem and reported back to me that it was a common problem with the early 4g iPod system boards intermittently shutting off power to the HD. They offered to replace the system board for $100 and for $20 more, install a newer HD for me, which supposedly had fewer problems than the older HD that I had. I shipped it off about two weeks ago, and I got it back in my hands yesterday. The rear metal part of the case is a tad bowed out on the edges, but other than that, it came back good as new. I'm satisfied with the service and would recommend them. |
