Battery packs for Shuffle?

I'm aware of the fact that people have made devices that allow you to charge your iPod Shuffle with a 9v battery. My question is, while the Shuffle is plugged into one of these devices, can you still listen to it? If so, it should be possible to make a special USB extension cable that will charge the Shuffle but still let you listen, which is something that I've discovered would come in handy when you're at work, your battery dies, and you still want to listen while you charge.

i assume that if it wont let u listen while charging froma PC that u wont be able to listen while charging from a portable charger...but a portable charger can be made for a shuffle...follow the reg one but with a female plug....and make sure u get the pins correct...theyll be switched.

Actually, I think you would be able to listen to it. You can when if you're using the Apple Shuffle battery pack, so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to with another one, but what chargers are you referring to exactly?

As long as you arent transfering data and you are just charging the shuffle you should be able to listen and charge simultaneously.

I was talking about the home-made ones.

Good to know, this means you could modify a USB cable to charge the iPod and allow you to listen at the same time, you just wouldn't be able to use it to transfer data. Or, you could install a switch that would allow you to go from data to charging. Thanks.
