Painted My iPod (w/ Pictures)

Hello. I painted my 4G iPod Red. I went to Ace Hardware, picked up some Krylon Plastic Paint, and got started. I did 4 coats, after I separated everything. I did 2 on the center button, and 4 on the regular body. I masked off the screen, but a little got underneath my masking, so I had to go with some paint thinner and it worked out.

i'd never take the risk though (i used www.colorwarepc.com)

But that's really cool.

I wish i had the skills to do that

How'd you get the font?

It looks cool

I went to iPod Wizard.net and I downloaded the 47 Font Package! Then I used the program itself to put it on there.

i painted my friends 20gb 4g a few months ago...i painted it a kameleon kolor from House of Kolor paints...i had completely masked off the whole ipod except the face than i made sure the seals were good...than i use an automotive paint spray gun and put about 3 coats of kameleon kolor (paint that changes color from white to blue to green) than i put 4 coats of clear on the face even over the screen but not the click wheel...than i let it sit for a day to dry and than voila it came out awesome...the paint was hella expensive...but i had some left over from a car paintjob so i just used it...and he paid me $75 for just materials...(paint is $450 a quart)

for a self paint job that looks really good. i don't think i have the balls to do that to mine (although tomorrow i am bondoing right up against mine while it's wrapped in saran wrap tomorrow...) maybe if mine get scratched up to the point of no return someday i'll do something like that.

also, i like the font too. i was going to do something liek that but ipod wizard only works on pc and i don't really want to format it for that.

Not only does it look good for a 'self paint job', but it looks top notch for a professional job I think.

No, that wasn't me. I'm going to do the earbuds tomorrow though!

The font I'm using is from the 47 Font Package on iPod Wizard is called Chicago - bit1.

ahh cool... wouldn't it help protect the paint if you used some clear? I always clear coated other things i've painted.. also do did you have to scrub/sand the face a bit and/or primer it before putting the paint on?

That looks awesome - I really like the red.. I don't care for most DIY paintjobs, but this one catches my eye. Great Job!

Yeah, that might be a good idea. I might go pick some up today. I was also talking about it with someone else and they said it might be a good idea as well.

I havn't worked with clear coat before. If I get it as spray, can I do over the screen without it masked off? Or will that effect the appearance under the screen?

I did not have to scrub or sand before i applied it. It worked out great .

Your paint job really looks good. I'm looking to paint my ipod so I've been digging around for a while for someone who has done it successfully with a 4th gen.

Is there any way you can write up a description of how you separated the front cover from the logic board and everything. I'm worried about pulling my ipod apart and breaking something important. The biggest thing I don't understand is how to pull the clickwheel off so it doesn't get paint on it. Any tips and tricks that you have would be a lot of help.

Also, what did you use to mask off the screen? I'm determined to find a flawless way to mask the screen of so its hard to tell it was a paint job.
