Hi, thanks for all the help in advance. I have read through a ton of the archives looking for an answer to these questions but I can't find a thing. Hopefully, someone will have an answer for me.
First off, the problem I am having seems to be very strange. The screen on my ipod works and doesn't work. For instance, when it is first plugged into the computer the Apple symbol appears and is perfectly readable and bright, just like normal, but when I unplug it and go through the menus it changes. Some menus, like the playlist selection screen, are perfectly readable, and some, like the options menu and the actual screen where the songs playing are displayed, are impossible to read. It's like the contrast just turns off and the entire screen will fade slightly darker to slightly lighter. Here is a list of things I have tried.

Updated Firmware
Downgraded Firmware
Let batteries Drain Completely
Left Charging All Night
Adjusted Contrast
It seems to be slightly better when I turn on the backlight and if I tilt the ipod I can sometimes see a LITTLE of what is going on in the menus that I can't read and make some adjustments. Has anyone ever heard of this issue? Any ideas on what else I can try to fix it? And the second, and possibly more important question. Can anyone tell me how to replace the screen on a 2nd Gen ipod? I am aware that fixing the problem is probably futile at this point, so I thought I would just replace the screen as the rest of the unit works perfectly. I followed the instructions on many websites for opening up the unit and have made it easily down to the screen, but it's attached and doesn't seem to have a simple way to remove it from the board inside. There are a million guides to removing the battery out there but I can't seem to find a guide that tells me how to replace the screen itself. If anyone at all has information about how to complete this step I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much for any help you can give and let me know if you need any more information.
