Thumbs down iTunes doesn't open when iPod's connected

whenever i put my iPod 30 gig into the computer, itunes doesn't open. i have to open iTunes myself. and yes, i'm not that stupid. "open itunes when attatched" is checked. So is there anyone else who had this problem and if so , how did you fix it?

I have a similar problem. My PC will do the following things when the ipod is connected

Open iTunes and everything works
Open's ipod as a disk drive and i have to manually open iTunes
Doesn't open anything and the iPod isn't detected in iTunes
Says it cannot recognize the USB device

i have Windows XP MCE 2005

well, the only thing that happens when i connect mine is that it doesn't do anything until i manually open iTunes. I mean, when it's in disk use, the disk immediately pops up and stuff, but maybe iTunes is defective?

should i re-download iTunes?

Cheers

Goto Start>Run type mscongif. A program called iTuneshelper.exe should be checked. This will allow the program to start when Windows starts. ituneshelper.exe monitors for connected iPods. This might fix your problem.
