Angry step sis' ipod mini shows apple icon and wont reset and computer doesnt recognise it

My stepsis has a new ipod mini and from what i can gather, her brother has his shuffle installed with itunes software on teh same computer, could this be one possibility for problems? Also, from what i gather, she has plugged in the ipod mini before she installed the software, in haste because she was eager to get started and didnt read the instructions which said not to do this.
Right, the problem with the ipod mini is, teh apple symbol is continualy on the screen and we cannot get rid of it. SHe has installed itunes onto her compuer but the apple symbol does not move. So we have installed itunes to my dads computer to see if anything changed and his computer still doesnt recognise the ipod and neither does mine which already has the software installed (and it recognises my ipod fine). We have tried resetting it and we want to restore it through the update thing (sorry not v comp literate) but because the computer doesnt recognise the ipod, we cannot run the restore. PLEASE can you help, i cannot deal with a bad mood on the upcoming holiday from her because she cant get her ipod to work. Its late now and im trying for her- of only she knew the hassle we were all going through just to make her smile. Please any help would be appreciated, i have fllowed faqs on apple website and i have browsed this site. Thank you!!! :@ Scoop xxx

When you have problems with the iPod always check the Apple support site. Click on the link on the right:
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/

If it doesn't work then it needs to go for repair. The info is on the webpage.

Yep, tried resetting it and it doesnt work! I have decided to keep it connected to my comp over night and then try again in the morning just to see whether the battery needs charging. But it doesnt say that the battery is charging it still has the apply symblo there. Oh well ill give it a try...

Right, need to ask another question now
My stepbro and stepsis share a comp at their house, he has an ipod shuffle already installed on the computer with itunes. Can my stepsis install the new ipod that we brought this morning (as a replacement) to the same computer without anything going wrong? or does she need to use his itunes software?
Do i have to install itunes on her account on their comp to keep them as 2 seperate accounts? thanks for the help x

If she has a separate account on the computer then set it up on her acc't. If iTunes is already installed then you don't need to reinstall it. If the updater has been installed just open it and connect the new iPod & click on either update if it is not greyed out or restore. This will format the iPod for use with iTunes. The software on the disk has iTunes (usually not current version) & the Updater (usually not the current version) & the User Guides. All of these can be download from the Apple support website.

You can use more than one iPod on a computer. I current have 3 that I use on my computers. If she listens to the same music then they can share a library if they want. If either one wants their own music library then set up a separate account for her. Just make sure they sign in & out of their acc'ts after each use.

Well, she wasn't supposed to plug the ipod in before she installed the software, first off. What error message are you getting?
