Cannot re-format my iPod..(major problems)

I have the newest iTunes (4.8), and the newest iPod updater (2005-03-23). And now I can't reformat my iPod. It has many problems with it, it doesn't recongize in iTunes, I see it in "my computer" but it often crashes. When I run iPod updater it use to get the service error, so I followed this the guide on the apple site.

Re-Installed iTunes (Step 1). The iPod updater worked for the first time and i clicked the 'Restore' option. But then I got this error "Cannot reformat: disk write error" something similar to that. Now when I run iPod updater it just says "initializing" and crashes there.

Well, restarting my computer fixes everything. See if that works.

Did you try to place the ipod in disk mode (Play + Select) right after a reboot?

Reset it. Menu+Select. Perhaps your computer's HD is a bit full? That might cause some crashes.

BTW, Welcome to the Lounge.

Thanks ...But unfortuntaly resetting didn't work. I am running a little low on HD space (bout 3.5GB) but I've always had it pretty low and it never cause me a huge problem..

Why does a relatively full hard drive cause iTunes/iPod to crash? Is that proven?
