Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. I made this 3G iPod dock out of some wood I found in my garage. It took me about 2 days to make, and I'm pretty happy with it. I was just wondering what you guys thought.

How did you get around the issue of using the wired dock connector? It comes with retaining bits, so you have to squeeze the sides to un-lock it from the iPod. One of the things I like about the original dock is that the iPod lifts in and out easily - surely with yours, you have to reach underneath and squeeze the connector to release the iPod. That sounds like a PITA to do? Maybe you can grind off the clips?

Thanks stickuto.
Anyways, I did grind down the little barbs on the connector so that it could be removed without pressing the buttons. There's a close up of the connector i modded on the site- look closely. That was a really important issue that sorta snuck up on me after i tested out the dock, because all of a sudden it was stuck! Thanks for bringing that up anyways. |

That looks pretty nice, I probably would have painted it white, or silver maybe. I'm not into the whole stain thing, unless I could get a cherry stain.

I thought about painting it white. but without a ridiculous number of coats of polyurethane the painted wood wouldn't look very....iPoddish. So I decided not to try to copy the style and have it look like I tried and failed, and just go away from the white.
