iPod Earphones make annoying squeaky sound

I brought a brand new iPod Classic 160 GB like 2 months back. Everything worked for the first few week or two but then I started hearing this annoying squeaky noise coming from the left earphone.

It happens almost every time I listen to the iPod with it in my hand or when it's in my pocket (every time)! But when it's laying on a surface and is not moving the noise is not there anymore.

Anybody know what the problem is??

Have you tried not playing anything (not even turning the iPod on but act like it is) and determine if you can still hear the sound? It might be a physical issue at the joint where the cable meets the earbud itself. It could also be the plastic edges of the earbud kind of moving around on your outer ear canal. So don't turn your iPod on or anything, just put your earbuds in (while being plugged into your iPod) and hold it like you are moving around as if music was playing (but it isn't since your iPod should be completely off).

Then, if that doesn't replicate the sound, turn your iPod on but don't play any music and do the same thing.

So that means it is a physical problem with the earbuds. You can take them to your nearest Apple Store and they will replace them for free, you can call Apple and they will send you a new pair for free, or you can do the smart thing by spending $30 on a decent set of headphones that will produce infinitely better quality.

It all depends on what style you want. Standard earbuds (similar style to the Apple ones), over-the-ear headphones, on-ear headphones, or in-ear earbuds? Also, if you want more assistance, it wouldn't be a bad idea to list your ideal budget. Don't be "ashamed" if it is on the low side. Often times people only have $20-$40 to spend on something like this.

One other thing to think about (especially if you want earbuds similar to the ones that came with your iPod); you might want to purchase a pack of black foam covers. These are these small, thin, round pieces of foam that cover the earbud part that touches the inside of your ear. They make thing more comfortable, create a better seal, and keep earbuds from falling out. I recommend them even if you want to buy a pair of earbuds later down the line.

Lastly, if you want earbuds, I recommend a pair from Skull Candy. I hate that this company has become nothing more than an image but I found a pair of $25 white and black earbuds that they make and I am really liking them. They have a built-in remote that can be used on the 120GB (2008) and 160GB (2009) iPod classic (so you can change the volume, skip tracks, listen to the previous track, play, and pause), they are very light (I hardly notice them), and they have a funky design so that they don't pop out (even without the foam covers though that still makes them more comfortable).

Earplug suggestions

Go to Amazon.com and order Griffon Earthumps which you can order for less than $10 including shipping, or a pair of Skullcandy Ink'd ear buds for less than $20, both in your choice of colors. Either of these sound much better than the Apple pack ins and are much more comfortable. As an added bonus, they do not squeak.
