Ipod classic 30GB

Hello people. Got a few faults with my classic 5th gen 30gb. First one when turned on or plugged into the wall all i get is a apple logo (not the sad face 1) and that is it. 2nd problem when put into disk mode my computer will reckonise it but as soon as i touch itunes, itunes crashes to the point i need to restart my laptop to get the crashed itunes gone. An here's the weird thing sometimes the normal menu screen will just appear randomly when it is connected to my laptop even when itunes is crashed........any idea's boys and girls

p.s this started when i connected my ipod to my brothers itunes and i stupidly disconnected the classic whilst it was on the "do not disconnect" mode

plus i converted some you tube videos into mp3 format and tried to put them on i seen on another thread something about artwork can corrupt your ipod because the album cover of the songs i converted were on the mp3 file.
