I have had the iPhone 4G 32GB for 2 years and love it. However I am starting to take more pictures and videos with it lately and am not 100% pleased with the video/picture quality. I am eligible for an upgrade through AT&T now and can get the 4S 32GB for $299.99 if I want. Would it be better if I waited a few months to see if a new iPhone 5 will be released instead? I mainly want the 4S for the better camera/retina display. For those who may know any new features on an iPhone5 vs the 4S, please let me know so I can decide if I should get the 4S now or wait a few months. Thanks.

Really? Front page news on this site and just about every other iOS and tech related web site is that Apple has a big media event planned for Sept 12.
Why on earth would you pay for an upgrade to a "new" iPhone 4S now when in 6 weeks that same $300 will buy you a lot more?

i'd rather wait and see if iPhone 5 works best than 4s... 6 weeks' worth waiting if you will get the most beneficial phone for you.

This would add a week or more to the 6-week wait, but it is definitely worth it.
I am sure that Apple's iPhone 4S sales are on a downward curve at the moment, exactly due to the long-awaited soon arrival of the next iPhone. |

The 4S battery life is what I find to be its weak point. Presumably the 5 battery life will be improved.
If you wait for the 5 to come out you can compare specs and initial user reaction. I think patience is your friend right now. You'll either end up with a 5, which is likely to be very cool. Or a 4S, which will be likely be cheaper than it is now. |

Based on Apple's recent history, when the next-generation iPhone comes out (which I suspect will not be called the "iPhone 5"), it's likely that the iPhone 4S will continue to be sold as a lower-end model, at a lower price point -- perhaps a 8GB or 16GB option -- similar to what has happened with every past release.
That said, you would probably also be able to pick up old or refurbished iPhone 4S units in larger capacities, albeit it not necessarily on contract -- you'd likely pay a discount from the full unlocked price, which will probably be more expensive than an "iPhone 5" on contract, although you'd be getting an unlocked iPhone.

^ None of that can be confirmed. It hasn't been confirmed (i.e. news released directly from Apple) that the next iPhone is going to have a larger display, better security (though that might be a feature touted in iOS 6, I haven't looked), a quad-core processor (everyone said the same thing about the iPad 3 and look what happened), along with "many other features." In fact, Apple hasn't confirmed anything and the only info we know is from "super secret 100% trusted, place your bets, wrong about 95% of the time insiders that can be 100% trusted."

I think the you should wait for the iPhone 5. Why? because it will have plenty of useful features and should be the best phone in the market by then.
The iphone 5 will come with 4g LTE, multiplayer gaming, iwallet, photographer's timer, even 3d option imaging. Those are the rumors but i believe they are pitch letters sent out by apple to create a hype around the phone. so i guess it should be close to the exact iphone 5. hope this helps.

That is reasonable. I don't see a point in anyone buying a smartphone now if they are interested in an iPhone. Even if Apple's event is pushed to October, that is still only two months away and might be worth the wait.
