Hi there -
I have a ridiculous question, and a not so ridiculous question. 1) I will hopefully be going to Australia next spring... and I'm wondering... does it cost to use apps such as my Euchre game, blackjack, or (most importantly) the Kindle app? Seems like those wouldn't incur international roaming charges since they are already downloaded on the phone... but I honestly have no idea. I've been reading tips on how to get the most from the phone internationally, but everything I read has to do with calls, emails, youtube, etc (all online stuff). 2) My itunes account recently got hacked into, so I had to suspend that account and set up a new one. I recently upgraded the OS (I have a 3g), but now I cannot update any of the apps that are associated with the old email address. When i try, it pops up with the old email address and will not let me do anything. The phone (and apps) were synched with the new account with the upgrade, but all of the old apps seem dead in the water. Any advice? Thanks so much - Kim |

With regard to 1: if you put your iPhone in Airplane mode and then use the apps - do they work?
If so, then you'll be fine...simply use them while you're away...maybe even leave your iPhone in Airplane mode if in doubt, when you don't need cellular connections. International roaming can be a very expensive exercise for the unwary.

Apps like Kindal can sync via Wi-Fi so you won't need to use the phone at all.

Hi and welcome to iLounge.
To answer your other question, you won't be able to update any apps purchased with the old iTunes Store account without actually having access to that account. This means you'll either need to repurchase those apps with your new account or reactivate the old one somehow. Obviously if you're only dealing with free apps, you can re-download them again under your new iTunes Store account and they should just sync up and work fine, although you probably won't want to do this for paid apps. I'd recommend getting in touch with the iTunes Store Customer Service ( Apple - Support - iTunes ) and see if they can help you out. Ideally reactivating the old account would be the simplest way to handle this, but if that's not possible for whatever reason, perhaps they can give you a credit for any apps you've purchased with that account, or find some way to re-associate those purchases with your new account.
