Voice Dialing with Bluetooth Headset

Hi All,

I tried searching for this but was not able to get a definitive answer.

My wife and I just ordered a pair of 3GS'es (first iPhones -- majorly psyched!) and there's one feature that is critical to both of us: the ability to use voice dialing via a bluetooth headset. I understand that the way to activate Voice Command was originally only by pressing and holding the "Home" button. Has this changed in an update or in iOS4 so that we can activate it with the bluetooth headset itself? For reference: she and I have, respectively, an Aleph Jawbone and a Jabra JX-10.

Thanks in advance!

Mark

Voice dialing worked fine on my 3GS with an Apple Bluetooth earpiece on 3.1.3. Still worked fine on iOS 4. I now have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4 and voice dialing still works fine. The Apple Bluetooth headset has a single button and I just have to hold it down for 2 seconds to activate voice control. It works for for dialing as well as all other voice controls. There's nothing special that I needed to do to get voice control to work with the Bluetooth.

Thanks, anypats.

Interesting. I just looked up a CNet review on the Apple Bluetooth headset and they said that they weren't able to get it to activate voice dialing -- but maybe they didn't know about the two second business. They also said that they were able to get that headset to voice dial on other phones. With our current headsets, pushing the button briefly activates the voice dialing on our LG phones and holding it for 2 seconds redials the last number. Well, in a couple of days we'll have the iPhones and can try it ourselves!

Other experiences in this realm are welcome. Thanks again.

Update:

Got the phones yesterday and it turns out that both headsets activate Voice Control with a simple click of the button on the headset itself -- just the way it worked with our old phones.

The bad news is that Voice Control SUCKS!!! SUCKS!!! Totally screws up nearly everything I say or can't find a match at all. Blessedly, it DOES recognize my wife's name as well as my major client's but hardly anything else. Apple! Please fix this!! Other voice recognition software I've used (on Moto KRZR and LG eNV Touch) works MUCH better than this PLEASE!!!!

Voice Control works pretty well for me, but if you're having trouble it's possible to add a field to your contact for a phonetic spelling that will help Voice Control recognize the names. I haven't had any experience in doing this so you might have to do some experimenting or searching.

I never have an issue for Voice dialing. Always recognizes names I didn't think it would. Pausing, playing, skipping on the iPod works fine as well. Now selecting an artist rarely gives me correct results.
