Removing "greyed out" albums etc

Hi people, I've searched for this query and can't find an answer which works despite similar issues being raised.

Basically I dragged and dropped some albums into my iTunes, then synced my iPhone. I then realised some of the album names were incorrect in iTunes which meant that I had a couple of albums which had been broken up into multiple albums with similar names. So I amended the details using the Get Info option. Now when I try to remove the offending albums and tracks from my iPhone I can't. All music is greyed out.

I've tried unticking the amended albums in iTunes and syncing with the "sync only ticked songs" option selected on my iPhone. I've even cleared my entire library and resyncing the iPhone but they are still there!

Where am I going wrong?!
