Iphone Doesn't Recognize Sim Card

Hey guys here is the run down on my phone I hope you can help me out. I got my 2nd iphone in 2 weeks this past friday, and as soon as I plugged it in it read " The sim card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported."My phones screen shows a usb into iTunes on the screen.
Now from what I have gathered this is a common problem for those who have a jail broken phone and preform the most recent update. My phone however is a Rogers' phone direct from my cell phone provider and new in condition. Also I would bring it back and exchange it for another but I have gone through 2 of these in the past week and have since gone crackberry as Rogers gave me a free hardware upgrade and allowed me to keep this iPhone.

So gents any thoughts on how to fix this problem? much thanks.

Do you have a second SIM card you can try? if you've had a SIM card for a long time and you've switched it between many phones it can wear out the SIM card's contacts a bit.

Thanks, I have tried it with multiple sim cards, and the sim card is approx 2 weeks old.

ok, definitely not that then. Have you read one of the news posts about firmware 3.1.2 having reception bugs? it might have something to do with that
