Question Wifi sometimes not working...3g works

Hello all-

I have been having a bit of a problem. When I'm at home, using my home network, my Iphone shows Wifi very strong. However, it is not really connecting when using internet needed aps (email, facebook, itunes etc..). If I switch it off, and use 3g, then it works fine.

Most times, when I reboot the phone, it will be connected fine with Wifi. Any thoughts on why this is happening?

Also, this is happening on both Iphones in use in the house with rebooting being the solution for both.

Thanks in advance.

The same thing is happening to me! I'm using a 4GB first gen iPhone, and Wifi simply won't connect sometimes. I have to constantly reboot the phone to get it to work, and then it only woks for a few moments before it dies. This is with full signal strength sitting 3 feet away from the router. Internet over EDGE does work though, so I am thinking that this is some sort of software related bug. I hope it gets worked out soon.

That's the other way 'round for me. My iPhone 3G is always connected to my home Wi-Fi and works very well, while my MacBook often drops the connection, in which case a logout/login is required to re-connect...

iPhone 3GS (32GB black) / Sennheiser MM200
Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) / MacBook (Black, 160GB HDD, 2GB RAM)
Kubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) / Shuttle XPC SK22G2-V2

I initially had trouble connecting to my home wifi network and when I did a few Google searches I saw a few people mentioning that it was a DNS issue on the iPhone.

After connecting to my wifi network I went into the network settings and deleted the values in the DNS field under DHCP and entered a known good DNS server like one of the the ones from OpenDNS <dot> com. I entered 208.67.222.222 and all the problems went away.

Good luck,

Kevin

But my iphone rocks...

Thumbs up It's working...so far

Thanks Kevin (kbachelder)!

I did as you instructed and it seems to be working great. I will report back ONLY if it ceases to work.

Thanks again! Hopefully, this will help others.

Thanks kevin - Have been trying everything to connect partners new iPhone to our WiFi as we are not in a 3g area where we live in UK - The DNS code worked a treat - frustration over!
