iPhone broke then sort of fixed. Need Help.

Hi Everyone,

So heres what happened...

My boss got an iPhone. It came unlocked so he can use it with a different sim. No problem.
A friend of his jail broke it for more apps. No problem.
He asked me to look for an app that would allow him to use Skype on his iPhone.
Found Fring and installed. It seemed to install ok. After the test call, then iPhone suddenly acted weird. It wont let me launch stuff. Launches then closes. Then I got this rotating circle, loading thing then froze. Wont turn off, so I reset by long pressing the home and sleep button. I tried to turn it on but it froze on the apple logo screen.

Ok. So, i googled around and thought of replacing some SpringBoard files but didnt go through that and decided to restore the iPhone. Downloaded the latest 1.1.4 IPSW firmware file from some site but for some reason, iTunes wont let me restore (error 5).

Updated to the latest iTunes and got 1.1.3 for the iPhone. Restored. When everything seemed to go well, another error on the end (forgot the number).

Strangely, I can turn on the iPhone now. Emergency call is the only thing I can do now and Itunes is asking me to insert a sim and activate but I didnt do that yet.

Questions:
1) Do you think the restore completed well despite the error in the end?
2) Should I, bypass the iTunes activation then unlock and jailbreak it now?

Thanks to anyone who can help.
Much appreciated.

I recommend a restore to 1.1.4 now, after chucking it in DFU mode (search around for how to put it in dfu mode) and then use an unlock to unlock it.

Whatever you do, do not use ZiPhone - it's a piece of junk that will mess up your WiFi - iLIberty+ is the way to go.

You can use ziphone to put it into DFU mode as that doesn't muck with your wifi

Just don't unlock it.
