Arrow iPod Accessories that work/dont work with iPhone - Post Here.

I know we all have iPod accessories. Please let us know what works (or dont work) with your iPhone.

Here are some of mine that I have done a quick test with:

1. iHome H7. When placed on the cradle it prompts me to set it to airplane mode to reduce static. It charged the iPhone and music is heard thru the speakers if I play a song thru the iPhone.
2. RoadShow cables. Only charges the iPhone. Will not play thru music to the speakers in the car. This is a real bummer. Did not try to get this to work thru airplane mode.

Shure E2c's don't fit.
Nor do my old monster cables to plug into my stereo.

~Tested the V-Moda Red Roxx earphones and they work w/o the earphone extension cable. It seems any earphone plug that is the same size as the Apple earphone plug should work with the iPhone.

~The extension cable for ear/headphones that came with the 1st gen Shuffle Sport case works with the iPhone. You'll need one to use most 3rd party head/earphones.

~The Super-Fi 5 Pros with an "L" shape plug don't work with the iPhone without an extension cable to plug them in.

~Also the iPod slip case fits the iPhone.

~The BTI II external battery does work with the iPhone. I've been using this to power my iPhone without any problems. Just select "no" when the pop-up appears asking if you want to turn on airplane mode.

~iLuv's i552 Portable AM/FM Radio and Docking Speaker System doesn't work. You can use the aux jack in the back of the speaker and plug into the headphone port on the iPhone to play music through it. The speaker system comes with an audio cable.

~Remote Control

5- Adapter Cable for iPod - Will allow you to use the old Apple remote control that worked with the 3G & 4G iPods.

Also works with my iPhone in the iPod section. Just select 'no' when the message appears and asks if you want to turn on 'airplane mode'. I've been using it and have had no problems in doing so.

Belkin Auto Kit-NO, 06 BMW 3-YES!

My Belkin Auto Kit for iPod w/ Dock Connector (Part # F8V7058-APL) doesn’t charge my iPhone.

It gives the airport mode accessory warning. The battery has a charge symbol in it but didn’t charge. The sound output worked well though. The sound was great using the output on the charger and a tape adapter. May even sound better than my 2G iPod. I don’t understand why it wouldn’t charge. Guess I’ll have to buy something else? I really like the design of this charger because it has the output jack and volume dial so you don’t have to adjust the volume on the iPod/iPhone when you connect it. Oh well.

The bluetooth connectivity for placing phone calls on the 2007 (meant 07 in title but can't change now) BMW 3 series does work with the iPhone. I’ve heard a lot about the limitations of the bluetooth on the iPhone and was concerned it wouldn’t pair at all with the car. To my surprise it not only pairs, but you can also see your entire address book of phone numbers on the BMW’s screen. So, although you cannot use voice dialing on the iPhone itself, you can use the car’s voice recognition to dial your iPhone’s contacts. The phone list shows all numbers for a contact with the type in parentheses [e.g. Eric (Mobile), Eric (Work)]. It works very well. Now I just have to find a charger with output level that works with the iPhone.

I've tried 2 different Belkin auto kits for iPod and neither will give me audio out of my iPhone.

On the other hand, my iGo charger seems to charge it just fine.

New Klipsch speaker system (similar to Bose Soundock) works fine.

As a matter of fact, the music will "stop" and your phone will ring when you get a phone call.

Purty kewl.

Not all headphones fit the iPhone

I found that some of the headphone jacks although being the right size do not fit the iPhone because the jack is resessed in the iPhone. My Sony MDR-Q66 would not fit because the rubber boot surrounding the jack is too wide. I was able to remove the boot with my fingers. It took some work but they now fit.

Having spent a half hour going through my old junk, looking for this mystery adapter, then perusing the 1st gen Shuffle gallery, I can say with near certainty that there was no such adapter included with the 1G Shuffle.

*UPDATE* I see now that the OP was referring to the short extension cable included with the Shuffle Sport Case. Just picked up 2 on Eboy for $.89/ea plus shipping...a lot cheaper than Belkin's or Griffin's offerings. Another person on Eboy seems to have extracted only the cable from the kit and it separately for $8.00...blah!

My Creative Ep-630's work with a small bit of modification. The cord and connector and covered by a thin layer of a rather grippy rubber, you can trim perhaps an 1/8th of an inch of this off the connector and have it work perfectly.

I'm considering a longer term solution that will work to prevent the rest of the rubber on the connector from coming off...perhaps a nice piece of thin shrink tubing...

Sorry mcdj, I corrected my post. I couldn't remember which one it came included with the case or the Shuffle.

Thumbs up Kensington sx2000 and Alpine IVA-D300

The Kensington iPod speaker doesn't work. There is no sound through the speakers, but it does charge. The Alpine DVD headunit with the iPod adapter works, with access to playlist and it also charges the phone.

Thumbs down No Etymotic et8 stereo wireless

Forget the wonderful Etymotics. As discussed elsewhere here, iPhone doesn't support Bluetooth stereo - Apple has crippled the A2DP feature that's included in the BT software stack - so you can't get stereo output from the phone. And the 8*Mate adapter that provides A2DP is designed for iPods. So hurry up and wait for Apple to offer their own wireless stereo headset...

The SIK ram din line-out adapter doesn't work with the iPhone. I use this with my iPod to get a line-out to my headphone amp. With the iPhone there was no audio out in standard or airplane mode.

I've been searching around trying to find a workaround for the A2DP support, if there's some way to enable it on the iPhone. Good articles on myitablet and on Gizmodo talk about this, saying BT software provider (Open Interface) definitely includes the A2DP support along with all the other profiles. Obviously it's a deliberate choice by Apple, but why? Sure, they want to sell their own hardware - but isn't it a lot riskier to bring out the most expensive phone/iPod on the market, and have it lack such a basic feature?

Can you play music without turning Airplane Mode on, and if so, is there any gsm interference/buzzing/etc

I know most docks have this cause they aren't shielded enough .. so far I've heard the Logitech ipod dock(s) don't suffer from gsm interference
