Logitech AudioStation Extreme

The Logitech AudioStation Extreme works (Best Buy has it for like $79 now and I've seen it for $50 online).
  • No GSM buzz - at all
  • Mutes music and plays the iPhone ringsound over the speakers which I like because I can crank the volume up while leaving it in the unit and I can hear the ring through the whole house. Then I use my jawbone to answer, while leaving phone in the unit.
  • Really good sound
  • Works also on 6AA batteries (phone won't charge when using the AAs but it will on A/C).
  • Nice remote
  • Nice black cover if you don't like that it's white (I HATE white iPod accessories)
  • Line-in jack

Are you talking about the Audiostation Express?

If so, this is really good news for me, because I just purchased one of these for my office.

Calistograph, I'm really glad you mentioned this. After looking at the details of your post, I did figure out that you were referring to the AudioStation Extreme. I was about to plunk down $200 for the full-fledged AudioStation but the user reviews have indicated that the touch panel and volume controls have been really problematic.

Thanks for letting me know that the iPhone works well with this item, because that deal on newegg just couldn't be passed up. I actually ordered a second one last night for me and my wife to use at home.

3 Auto FM transmitters that don't

With the recent Apple release of iPhone update 1.0.1 which supposedly improved iPod accessory compatibility, I tried over a week 3 different auto FM transmitters/chargers. All 3 failed for various reasons.

1. Belkin TuneBase FM - The major obstacle here is that you need to "tune" your iPhone to radio station using its screen. While this works easily on an iPod, it's a no go on the iPhone; basically, the iPhone doesn't recognize the add-on so can't display the frequency screen.

2. MacAlly FMCup - This will play music and charge the iPhone, however, unless the Airplane Mode is turned on, phone signal interference will interrupt frequently. Once Airplane Mode is on, the feedback interference goes away, but of course, so does phone capabilities.

3. DLO TransPod - This pretty much reacts the same as the FM Cup...it charges, plays music through your car radio but has frequent phone signal interference unless Airplane Mode is turned on.

Once again, that is w/ the current (8/11/07) Apple iPhone update 1.0.1 installed on my iPhone 8G. Still looking for the Holy Grail Auto FM Transmitter accessory for the iPhone!

After the 1.0.1 iPhone update, the Belkin Auto Kit works fine.

iCombi Works with Pioneer Car Stereo unit

I read the iCombi from Oakley Sunglasses works with the iPhone. I purchased one, and it works perfectly with my Pioneer DEH-P7900BT. The phone works very well, and connects automatically to the unit every time I get in the car, even without the iCombi, of course. The only downside to the iCombi is that it does not continue to charge the iPhone while listening to music. It's A2DP, so since the Pioneer accepts A2DP, it connects every time I get in the car with me doing nothing to get it to pair. No need to enter 0000 to get the iCombi to pair with the Pioneer (on the iPod side). I did have to enter the 0000 code to get the iPhone to connect automatically with the Pioneer for the phone side of the unit. If Oakley can get A2DP to work for $50 bucks, why couldn't Apple just put A2DP in the phone?

I don't think the Pioneer will control changing songs on the iPhone, since it's just A2DP. I kind of like that anyhow. I keep my iPhone in my shirt pocket, and if I want to change the tunes I can pull the iPhone out and hold it up to be able to see the road and iPhone at the same time. I don't do much changing of music once I start listening anyhow.

The iCombi pulls its power from the iPhone. I haven't noticed a difference in battery drain with the use of the iCombi, just the usual battery drain using the iPod function on the phone.

Oops! Yes, I did mean the Express. I've seen it at BJs Wholesale Club for $59 I think. I would still buy it from Best Buy only because of the availability of the replacement plan which is only $3 if I remember right. Covers you for a year

In the interest I'm saving timefoe those of you that buy the Audiostation Express - use adaptor 4 (it seems to fit then iphone best.

I need a mount and car charger for my iPhone. i drive a VW Passat and really like the gooseneck mounts that attach to the lighter and charge at the same time and have an audio line out. The TuneFlex AUX and FlexibleDock both seem perfect...if they officially supported iPhone:

TuneFlex AUX
FlexibleDock

Anyone used either of these products with an iPhone and can give some detailed comments on how compatible they are? Does the line out work? Does it securely hold the iPhone? Does it charge?

The Volkswagen iPod kit works with the iPhone. It asks if you want to turn it to airplane mode but works even if you say no. When a call comes in it fades out the music and the call is just in the handset even if you keep it plugged in. My only complaint is you can't see the artist/album, just the song title.

Thumbs up

My Vmoda Bass Frequency headphones fit and work fine.

Also my iHome (iH5B) clock radio works pretty well with the Iphone. But every time I use it I get a message from the phone saying its not compatible (I just hit Ok on the phone and it doesn't bother me again). It plays music and the iHome remote seems to work OK. Although I'm not sure how well it recharges the phone.

anyone used the Griffin SmartDeck Cassette adapter with an iphone? it plugs in via the dock connector and allows you to switch tracks with steering wheel controls etc. wondering if it works with iphone.

are there any standard cassette adapters that have the iphone specific plug besides Monster's offering? I hear it breaks fast and has too much mechanical noise, but it seems to be the only option i can find currently....

Alpine 9857 works

The Alpine 9857 headunit with the iPod adapter works, with access to playlist and it also charges the phone.

I'm using the Belkin Auto Kit to get music to my stereo and to charge my iPod. I've tried it with the iPhone, and it seems to play fine.

My question is about something Jeremy wrote in his review. He said that the iPhone is incapable of charging and playing through its dock-line-out at the same time. So, it may be that my iPhone is playing but not charging. Looking through the comments after the review, some users said that while the iPhone showed that it was charging, it wasn't actually.

Has there ever been a final verdict on this? Is my iPhone both charging and playing through the line-out thanks to one of the Apple software updates?
