You need to do is to select those you want to copy, right-click, and then select "Save to my image."

If you are using a mac there is a super easy way to do this. Use spotlight or go to applications and find image capture. It will let you download your iphone pictures straight to your photos folder or wherever you want it to go.
For windows....ehhhh go buy a mac |

Even for Windows it's pretty trivial in most cases -- the iPhone appears to the computer in the same manner as any other digital camera connected via USB, so the standard Windows photo import wizard should come up by default unless you've specifically disabled it.
Further, if you're an iCloud user, you really don't have to do much more than install the iCloud Control Panel for Windows and enable Photo Stream on both ends -- anything in your camera roll will be uploaded to the iCloud Photo Stream and downloaded to a folder on your PC whenever your iPhone is on a Wi-Fi connection. Note, however, that Photo Stream only supports photos -- you will still need to transfer videos over a USB connection or find some other third-party app to handle these (the new automatic Camera Import feature in Dropbox works well if you're a Dropbox user, for example).

Your Camera Roll photos on your iPhone are readily accessible from your PC once you connect the device to your computer. Go to Computer > iPhone > Storage > DCIM and you will find all of your iPhone Camera Roll photos in that folder. Just select the ones you need to transfer and copy them to a folder on your computer.

You can use iTunes. Just make a folder on your desktop and name it to empty then sync the folder to itunes.

The subject of this thread is to get the photos off the iPhone. This can not be done with iTunes, what you describe here is a method to get photos on to the iPhone.
