Looking for a 4S case recommendation

I'm going to upgrade my 3GS to a 4S, and I was looking for some good case recommendations since it seems to be compatible with all iPhone 4 cases, and I'd like to have it on hand before the 4S shows up.

Here are my requirements:

1) Must be protective, because I drop my phone constantly. Will sacrifice some thinness for protection, though I don't think I'm willing to go quite as thick as, say, the Otterbox Defender. Ideally, I'd get a Speck Candyshell except I've heard it doesn't comply with...

2) Must be able to take a dock connector cord for charging/line out to my car stereo without being removed from the case.

3) Must be able to use more than just the super-skinny Apple headphones with it without removing it from the case.

4) Must be relatively easy to pry out of a jeans pocket, therefore fairly smooth. Again, I would go for the Speck Candyshell if I hadn't heard so many complaints about not being able to charge it in the case with a standard iPhone cable.

Any suggestions?

Honestly, the best iPhone case that I've ever owned is from a company called Proof Cases. iLounge rated it A- Highly Recommended a while ago and I gave them a try. Just do a search for "Proof Cases DUO" to check out the review
I've seriously abused the crap out of the Proof case and dropped it pretty hard a couple of times. They have this special design on the inside that kinda cradles the phone that I've never seen before.I just ordered 2 more cases from their site after pre-ordering my iPhone 4S cuz they're having a "BUY ONE GET ONE FREE" sale. 2 awesome cases for $15 each? Count me in.

Just a suggestion...

I've always liked Switcheasy Cases. I can't post links because I am a new member but you can google the name and see the whole product line at switch easy(dot)com

They have a really variety and selection and they provide 2 screen guards and connection caps with all of their purchases. Fast shipping too- I've used them for the last 2 generations of iPhones and their quality is even better now than it has been in the past.

I am currently using the 'Nude' case. ^^ Good luck in choosing one!

Switcheasy's site has no model 4 cases that I can see. However, this site reviews a Switcheasy case for the 4. Is the 4 the same size as the 4s? I like Switcheasy.

I haven't tried one, but you might give the Griffin Elan series a look. These are two-piece clamshell cases that leave the top and bottom edges completely open, but recessed. I had a similar Griffin case for my 3gs, called the Wave, I think, and never had problems with headphone cables or dock connectors.

+1 Switcheasy

I am also a big fan of Switcheasy. The CapsuleRebel has the shock absorption combined with a funky outer shell that makes it easy to slide into or out of your pocket. I had the equivalent on my 3G, but with mixed colors- black an yellow- very industrial looking.

iSkin solo I recommend. It is almost a hard case, but still feels like a bumper. Always been an iskin fan.

I would not recommend the SwitchEasy Eclipse case if you were at all considering it. It got rave reviews on this site so I ended up purchasing one a few months back for my 4S. The hole at the top of the case wasn't large enough to fit my AUX cable I use in my car and would have to remove the case just to plug it in. I was fine with this as I really like the case otherwise.

Fast forward like 3 weeks later and the soft plastic siding had begun peeling from the side of the case and cracking along the edge from being removed from the case everytime I needed to plug in the AUX cable. Snapped a picture and got a new one from SwitchEasy but a couple months later my new one is suffering the exact same fate.

Needless to say I don't plan on purchasing any further cases from SwitchEasy.

Ordered the Acase Superleggera Pro on Amazon so hopefully that will fare better!

Wide headphone jack

wow. I can't believe my old account still works here. Haven't posted for years.

Noone noted his requirement that he must use bigger headphones. I'm in the exact same boat - I use grados with a thick headphone plug deal, and I want to be sure that I'll be able to use them.

iSkin solo allows for bigger headphones because I use bigger headphones with such case and havent had an issue.

The case also docks to most stock apple products as well as third party products.

Case is kinda like a hard rubber plastic, providing a nice sleek feel as well as the proper protection. Dropped mine a few times and its still working great.
