"Live" updating

I have a playlist that consists of tracks to delete when heard. The rule is playcount is not zero. I sync manually. When connecting the iPad to iTunes, the playlist is empty even though I know it is not. While connected to iTunes, I can see the playlist on the iPad itself, and the tracks are there in the playlist. I have to manually note which songs ARE in the playlist and go over to iTunes to delete them. Why does not the playlist in iTunes for the iPad not exactly mirror the one visible on the iPad itself?

Because you're manually-managing your iPad. If you want both versions of the playlist to be the same you have to auto-sync your iPad. This also applies to play counts, last played date, and rating changes -- if you want this to be the same between iPad and iTunes, you need to auto-sync.

Now, I don't know how it is for the iPad, but I gather that iOS 5 changed some behavior with the iPhone. If you manually-managed the iPhone, it used to update your iTunes library, but not with iOS 5. My point is that you may have had a different experience with your iPad prior to iOS 5 and now you're puzzled as to why you don't see what you used to see. But, maybe the iPad was just like iPods all along in this regard.
