Talking Ipad shuts down randomly

Hey, i have a problem which i hope someone can explain why is happening for me.

From time to time my iPad 2 randomly shuts down, it can be in the middle of an application or it can be while the screen is locked.
When it shuts down i can't get it to start up again, i tried home+lock button.
If i connect it to an power supply it will startup showing almost 0% of battery but as soon as the iOS is loaded it will show anywhere between 40-80% of battery. If i disconnect it from the power supply within 1 min after it has started it will turn off again, if i wait 2-3min it will stay on.

I notice that the iPad is a little hot when it shuts down, could this have something to do with overheating.

I tried the following without any results:
- Installing iOS 5.0
- Restore to factory defaults with iOS 5.0 and removed all programs pictures music videos etc. (only thing left is 4 programs and 2 mails).

So is my iPad broken or?? I searched all over the internet but didnít find any answers.

This could be a software fault within the ipad and perhaps a visit to the Apple Store to explain the problem to them may be the answer as you seem to have tried "the obvious"!

Your iPad has a bad batteries. An iPad has three batteries build in. These batteries link with each other and maybe one of the components from the batteries is bad. That's why it will shut off when it get a bit hot. My suggest is to sell it and then buy a diff one.
You can sell it for around 300-450 on Ebay and then buy diff one for 500-600. If you planning to get it fixs will cost you about $200. I would sell it and buy diff one.
