Question So... which iPad 2 case?

I picked up an iPad 2 at Best Buy last Friday and they had a limited selection of Apple Smart Covers in stock as well as a couple of other vendors rushed cases. I had been planning to buy a leather cover, but after popping open one and feeling it, its clear the 'leather' covers are just particulate leather mixed with plastic or something. Doesn't feel or smell much like leather at all. So I went with the plastic light blue model. Perfectly happy with it for now.

In the long run I may want something slightly more protective, once some other vendor's cases become available. I quite liked the iPad 1 Apple case in terms of its flexibility, though I hated the material and how dirty it got and how difficult it was to clean.

Anybody else have an opinion on the best iPad 2 cases?

iLounge has great reviews on cases, including the new ipad

EDIT: I have the switcheasy canvas. It is amazing! I would recommend that one. It is a great improvement of the canvas for the first ipad.

I also have the SwitchEasy Canvas (Charcoal) and I really liked it the first day I had it. When I first opened it I noticed a lack of attention to detail with the stitching and although it looked a bit sloppy I decided I could live with it. The next morning I picked up my iPad and noticed that the Canvas case had a fracture in the bottom right corner that is approximately 3 cm long. Not sure how it got there but I suspect that the plastic used for the interior is of an inferior quality and since it is under stress by having the iPad in it it cracked. I'm currently attempting to get a refund for the case through SwitchEasy and they seem cool so far, I'm not looking for an exchange because I don't trust the build quality of the case, its very nice at first glance but buyer beware.

I have an image as proof, but since I'm a new user to the Forums I'm not allowed to link to it.

Miniot cover with Waterfield case1

I bought the Apple magnetic cover for my ipad 2. I noticed 4 marks across the screen and staining from the cover when folded in stand mode on the back. I then had Invisible shield full coverage protection installed. I purchased the Miniot wood cover made in Holland and the Waterfield Ipad ultimate sleeve case.

I am very pleased with this setup!

I use a pad and quill case on my iPad. A little bit bigger, but it's built like a book with a true binding and leather wrapped.

Good to know about the SwitchEasy Canvas: mine is still backordered so maybe I'll look for a backup in case mine is faulty. I've purchased several cases from them for my iPhone 4 but maybe they've dropped the ball?

SwitchEasy's other iPad 2 cases are still in the mix for me: the Cara also got a great review from iLounge but I like the idea of a built-in stand (who wants to carry a little stand around?). My husband was thinking about getting the Cover Buddy in conjunction with the smart cover but at that point, you've spent over $60 and there are better cases for that much money.

switcheasy new products

Hi,

Just to let you all know.. I e-mailed switcheasy last night and just got a reply regarding the switcheasy CARA for ipad 2. the newer version has the automatic on/off function now and just checked out there website, the NUDE version for ipad 2 is out now! I'm so excited.. I don't know which one to get.

for those of you who've used switcheasy CARA, I wonder if it adds significant weight to your ipad?

Here's the reply that I get from switcheasy:

"Yes, the Cara has an automatic on/off function.
We do not have an exact date as to when the NUDE will be available but
we soon also!"

Based on my previous good experience on my iPad, I ordered the Incipio iPad 2 Smart Feather this morning. It provides protection for the back and permits the use of a Smart Cover. It should ship on May 18. I will post a short review once I see it.

Best is always highly subjective. I really like my Saddleback Leather case. I'm sure others will find it to be too expensive or lacking specific features they're looking for.

I actually have three things sitting here waiting to be used with my iPad 2 as far as cases go: Apple's black leather smart cover, an Enki Clear Genius case (clear plastic that snaps onto the back of the iPad 2), and a 10" netbook case that I used with my iPad. I know that Apple's smart cover really isn't the best this time around (I thought their iPad case was the best though) but I don't really care. I just need something to cover the front since I have a nice back. The netbook case I have is nothing special either but it allows me to carry an iPad, its AC adapter and syncing cable, my Bose QuietComfort headphones in their case, my 4G iPod touch, my Sony point-and-shoot digital camera, my 3DS in its case (with some games and its AC adapter), my Droid X, its AC adapter and syncing cable, and my AppleTV 2 (with its AC adapter and a ~6ft HDMI cable) all with some room to spare weighing in at about 3.5 lbs.

I prefer any case that protects the entire case, I am constantly concerned with scratches and dents on the back using one of the Apple Smart Covers. It's just hard to find the right mix between durability and sleekness- I want a case that looks as cool and slim as the iPad 2 itself. Case Logic has some good options, but they are pretty expensive.

I went for a smart cover, a smart cover compatible case for the back (an easiskins one which matches the colour of my smart cover) and a Moshi screen protector too - a bit OTT i know but I don't want any damage on my iPad because they're so expensive!

I ordered a Gumdrop case in May for the iPad2. Still haven't received it. I've emailed them 3 times about it. No response. No info on the web order form about order status and tracking. Just blank. I know they just did a review here at iLounge. I wonder what's going on with it.

I wasn't planning on getting a case at all for the iPad originally. I just use it at home. But after using it for awhile now, I've noticed a few things about a non-cased iPad2. It's sorta slippery. It's so smooth, there's really nothing to grab onto while holding it. It looks great, but in reality, for something you are going to be holding, some texture would be nice. Also, the edges are kinda sharp. After holding it for awhile, the edges of the iPad2 dig into the folds in my fingers. Not very comfortable. While I appreciate Apple creating such a thin product (pretty amazing) there isn't really much there to hold onto.

I got the Gumdrop case because it looked to me like the ridges and soft rubber case would address my issues with the iPad2's form factor. I'm hoping it will just sit better in my hands while browsing and reading.
